Introducing New Search Experience on DISCO
At DISCO, we know that search is fundamental to your workflow. Whether you’re a producer looking for an old beat or a music supervisor sifting through a million tracks for a one-stop track on a deadline, efficient and accurate searching is essential.
With over 150M tracks on the platform, and hundreds of thousands of searches performed every week, our search functionality requires high performance infrastructure and best in class search technology to deliver high quality results, fast.
We’ve spent the last few months rebuilding DISCO’s search capabilities from the ground up, delivering a new experience that is faster, richer, and more intuitive.
The Improvements: Speed, Power, and Precision
Our new search engine delivers a substantial leap in performance and capability. Here are the key improvements you can expect to see in your DISCO:
1. Improved Search Engine
Typo and spelling tolerance: Our search now supports fuzzy searches, search suggestions and typo tolerance, as well as better support for non-English characters, including Korean and Japanese characters.
Faster performance and smoother loading: Under the hood, we’ve overhauled our search architecture from the ground up to deliver immediate results. This involves changing the way we do backend indexing and query processing, significantly reducing the time it takes for DISCO to return search results.
2. New Search Layout
Column-Based Search: View more results and metadata on a single, customizable page. Tailor the columns to show the data most relevant to you.
Inline Filtering: Narrow down your search results instantly with filters now integrated directly into the search view.
Full-width view and auto-expanding Playlist Creator: The new layout is more flexible, allowing you to discover and search while easily adding tracks to playlists.
3. Deeper search capabilities
Rebuilt Similarity Search (Sim Search): DISCO Sim Search is now faster, more accurate, and a more reliable way to find the right track, fast. This new system, fully rolling out over the next few months, is powered by a next-generation audio AI that was trained on a far richer understanding of music than before. Instead of only matching tracks based on surface-level acoustic patterns, this AI captures the fuller musical picture — melody, rhythm, texture, energy, and mood. Each file receives a unique sonic fingerprint, allowing us to compare millions of these in milliseconds to deliver genuine, relevant matches.
Rights Data Lookup: Music Supervisors can now access key licensing rights data directly from search results, helping to streamline the licensing process. (Rights data lookup, now in beta, is currently available to select users.)
The existing Browse search will remain available for now to support some specific use cases not yet supported in the new search page, such as searching for a specific playlist within your DISCO and accessing the breadcrumb trail view.
4. What’s next
We’ve got a heap of other improvements to our search and discovery experience on the way:
- Natural language search: Search how you think, rather than having to use keywords.
- More flexible Similarity Search results, with improved filtering and sorting.
- The ability to search across specific DISCO Catalogs within MultiDISCO search.
- Surfacing even more relevant track data (e.g., similar tracks, other playlists) within the search results.
- A revamped discovery experience for music supervisors.
Rollout and Feedback
We’re really excited about how these search improvements will improve discovery and support core workflows for our users.
The new search experience is rolling out in beta to all DISCO users throughout December.
We’d love your feedback as we continue to improve search. Please use the dedicated callout in-app, or email us at [email protected].
