The London-based Involved Group is a music organization comprising record labels, artist management, label services, and event production. Founded by electronic music pioneers Above & Beyond, Involved is also an independent music publisher offering creative support, copyright management, and licensing solutions.
DISCO spoke to David Lapushner, Head of Distribution & Rights Management at Involved, about how DISCO helped streamline their operations, from metadata management, syncing processes, and one-stop catalog licensing. “As our company grew, there was a lot more integration between our publishing division and the record side, which prompted us to consider using DISCO on the label side,” David says. “It’s the industry standard for sharing assets. Especially in the sync world and for music libraries, it’s a no-brainer.”
“DISCO makes things a lot easier”
David tells us that prior to using DISCO, Involved Publishing’s greatest pain point was the manual labor with transferring information across platforms, particularly with metadata. “It would be copy, paste, copy, paste, copy, paste,” he says. “Now, we can do that with just a couple of clicks. Given that DISCO is one of the main sources of our label operations, it just makes things a lot easier.”
Efficient catalog management = more licensing opportunities
Involved Group is primarily a dance and electronic business, and David tells us that managing their one-stop catalog has been a big priority. (A track is “one stop” if a licensee only has to contact one party to clear both the master and publishing rights.) DISCO’s tagging options make it easier to indicate which tracks qualify as one stop.
“We’re able to easily siphon out our one-stop catalog, and then that gives us more effective licensing opportunities where one stop is preferred or the only option,” David says. “And it also allows me to communicate with our publishing team with ease. The advantage of the one-stop catalog is that it’s all within the same entity. You can clear master and publishing with the same person. It makes things a lot easier for licensing a track or a song, and it makes it easier for the licensor as well.”
