Industry Profile: Indica Records

How DISCO Helps Indica Records Organize Artist Tracks & Industry Contacts

“DISCO is [one] of the main tools that we [use], like Gmail. It’s the GSuite,” Audréane says. “It’s one of the tools that I open as I start my day.”

Indica Records is an indie record label, management, and promo team created and run by artists for artists. Based in Montreal, Indica’s catalog features a wide range of musical genres, from electronic and folk to rock, hip-hop, and R&B, all coming out of Quebec, Canada.

DISCO sat down with Indica’s Label Manager Gautier Villette and Publishing & Sync Manager Audréane Lafond at the label offices in Montreal to talk about how DISCO helps keep their artists’ files organized and updated, and using the platform to send company newsletters to their industry contacts.

“DISCO is [one] of the main tools that we [use], like Gmail. It’s the GSuite,” Audréane says. “It’s one of the tools that I open as I start my day.”

DISCO offers a centralized system for managing every track on Indica

Indica is currently home to more than 20 active artists, each of whom are constantly sending over tracks in various states of progress. Some tracks might be at the demo stage; others might be fully mastered. When their artists update a shared playlist with the latest version, the track will also update on Indica’s end. DISCO helps the artist and Indica stay on the same page, whatever stage of development the track might be in.

“That’s something that’s quite efficient for us, because we get so much content from the artists,” Gautier says. “It’s sometimes hard to keep track of the different versions. [We have to] make sure that we send the right version to the right people… Having all that centralized into one system that you can update and add notes and tags makes it super easy for us. Just retrieve information and share it.”

Sending newsletters via DISCO Email Creator

With the DISCO Email Creator, you can send emails and share music with your DISCO Contacts and Mailing Lists of any size. It’s what Indica uses to update music publishers and supervisors about what’s new on the label’s roster, as well as keep those contacts organized and findable. “I’m able to talk to them about the history of the artist, and then send a link [to the] artist page… That gives me the opportunity to be relevant, clear, and efficient,” says Audréane.
